Rumble Strips

• Rumble strips alert the travelling public through visual, auditory and tactile stimulation and are one of the most effective ways of gaining a driver’s attention. They have been used on highways, at stop signs and in a school zone for the visually impaired.

Road Safety

Drawing of Highway maintainance truck with flashing lights and message: Slow Down, Move Over
Slow Down & Move Over.  It's the law in British Columbia

Just a friendly reminder, when you see emergency or maintenance vehicles on the side of the highway (or roads), it is the law to slow down and move over (if safe to do so).

This simple courtesy helps ensure worker safety on the job and that we all get home safely to our families.

It will also save you money and demerit points on your license.

Instructions listed for Slowing down and moving over when you see an emergency vehicle on the sdie of the road.
Message describing the penalties for drivers who fail to slow down and move over.

The Cone Zone Campaign

When spring construction season ramps up, the Cone Zone BC campaign kicks in to raise awareness for roadside worker safety. The numbers speak for themselves:

The Hard Facts showing number of deaths & injuries on BC roadways from 2011 - 2020.

These startling stats make it clear drivers need to undergo a major shift in attitude to help protect people representing a wide range of professions – from traffic controllers and construction crews, to emergency personnel and truck drivers tending to their vehicles.

A good place to start thinking about roadside worker safety is by hearing their stories. We all need to respect the Cone Zone.
